Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has announced the most sought-after schools among the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates.
Speaking during the release of the 2024 Form One placement results at Lenana School in Nairobi on Monday, December 18, the CS said that the selection in those schools was high compared to the available slots in the institutions.
"The top ten most selected schools this year are as follows:..As we announce the 2024 Form One placement result, it is important to remember that candidates' choices played a significant role in the outcome. They were placed in schools based on merit and their choices," he said.

As a result, candidates who missed the schools were placed in schools of equivalent rank in the neighbouring counties.
"Some students were placed in schools of equivalent standing outside their counties. This includes those from counties with inadequate capacity," Machogu noted.
The top 10 most preferred schools
1. Kabianga High School was been ranked at the top of the list, chosen by 186,357 students, even though its capacity is only 672.
2. Nanyuki High School, with 480 slots, seconded the list after 158,741 candidates showed interest in learning at the institution.
3. Following closely was Pangani Girls, selected by 144,542 students with a capacity of 384 students.
4. Kapsabet Boys, with a slot for 432, became fourth after being chosen by 143,723 scholars.
5. Alliance Girls' High School rounded up the top five, selected by 135,033 students with a capacity of 384.
6. Maseno School, with a capacity of 672 students, attracted 123,777 students, making it the sixth most preferred choice.
7. Nakuru High School, with a space of 480 candidates, was selected by 115,513 students.
8. Butere Girls High School secured the eighth most preferred school, chosen by 114,635 students, with a capacity of 480 students.
9. Mang'u High School, with a capacity of 480 learners, was selected by 112,938, placing it in the ninth position.
10. Alliance Boys High School was preferred by 110,839 students against its capacity of 384.
Overage students miss Form One placement
However, Machogu disclosed that overage students would not further their studies in public secondary schools but would rather be placed in adult institutions.
"However, all over-age learners have been forwarded to the Directorate of Adult and Continuing Education for placement in adult and continuing education institutions," he said.
The students are required to join their respective schools on January 15, 2024.
