Bungoma - Roots Party of Kenya leader George Wajackoyah found himself on the receiving end after taking on the ward representatives.

Wajackoyah was among the politicians gracing the send-off of the late Lawrence Sifuna, a one-time Bumula member of parliament.

He took a swipe at the Bungoma MCAs for failing to sanction through legislation recognition of imminent persons through public facilities like roads.

According to him, it was irrational to honour the leaders long after they had died.

He suggested the MCAs were not learned and were not conversant with their roles at the county assembly.

The politician had been provoked by one of the MCAs who claimed he was under the influence of of a substance.

"I am currently doing my 14th degree, Mr MCA, go back to school and study," he fired, before profiling the whole bunch of ward representatives as unlearned.

Disturbed by Wajackoyah's language, Bungoma governor Kenneth Lusaka came back despite having spoken earlier to call the former presidential candidate to order.

Lusaka pointed out that the MCAs were duly elected and ought to be respected regardless of the cadre of their positions in the country's political leadership hierarchy.

"Let us respect other leaders. The MCAs were elected by these citizens. We cannot be coming to insult leaders here," said Lusaka.

Lawrence Sifuna's death

The veteran politician was announced dead on December 4.

The goner, an uncle to Nairobi senator and ODM party secretary general Edwin Sifuna, represented the Bumula constituency in the 7th and 8th editions of parliament in the 1980s.

He died at an Eldoret Hospital where he was getting treatment for a stroke he had suffered.

ODM, in a statement, hailed Lawrence as one of its life members.

"We commiserate with the family of our SG Edwin Sifuna, friends and relatives following the loss of the Hon. Lawrence Sifuna. He was a Life Member of the ODM party. He is a former MP for Bungoma South Constituency (presently Kanduyi) and also Bumula. May his soul RIP," ODM stated.

Born in 1946, Lawrence was first elected into parliament in 1979 to represent the larger Bungoma constituency before it was split.

He later represented Bumula and Kanduyi before quitting in 1997.

In his political heydays, Lawrence aligned with the leftist lawmakers who often challenged the late Daniel Moi's government.

Their stance at the time was that the policies formulated by the government were exploiting the citizenry thus their spirited constant objection against the regime.

To fight along the deceased were Koigi wa Wamwere, James Orengo, Abuya Abuya, Chibule wa Tsuma, Onyango Midika, Mwashengu wa Mwachofi and Philomena Chelangat Mutai.

The aforementioned are hailed for championing Kenya's second liberation.
