"When I'm drunk, I did not even report on duty, but when I was sober, I would do my work very well. I tried to change, but I was depending on alcohol for my survival. It was part of me, I could not do without it.
My wife was there for me. She could come to look for me in bars and clubs when I stay up late hours. We would head back home together. She warned me I was going overboard, but I could not listen because the moment you are hooked, you cannot listen to anyone unless they buy you a drink," he said.
Falling into ditch, injuring spine
One day, Othoche from Kajiado had an accident where he fell into a ditch and injured his spine, rendering his mobility.
His first surgery was wrongly done, which made his situation worse, but he underwent other surgeries to correct the issue.
"I was told I would never walk despite several physiotherapy that I went through. I had started making some progress and was using crutches, but something happened along the way, and I was back to square one.
If it were not for alcohol, my life would probably be better, but here I am, stuck in this wheelchair," he painfully said.
