Kakamega - A high school student has been killed and a friend seriously injured after they were involved in an accident along the Kakamega-Webuye Highway.
The Form Three student at St Monica Lubao Secondary School was hit by a matatu at the Okumu shopping centre in Lurambi while riding a motorcycle from school.
As reported by Citizen Digital, the student was riding on the highway alongside his friend, who sustained severe injuries in the Wednesday, December 6 incident.

They were making a turn towards a nearby fuel station when a matatu rammed into them from the rear.
Residents appealed to the government to move with speed and erect speed bumps on the road, claiming that the road had claimed lives in tragic accidents.
Machakos woman killed after car rolls severally
Elsewhere, a woman died, and her colleague was seriously injured following a car accident along the Kangundo-Mwala Road.
Area chief Daniel Muli confirmed the incident, stating the car was headed to Mwala when the accident happened.
A passenger, the woman, died on the spot while the driver was rushed to Kangundo Hospital for advanced care with severe injuries.
Witnesses revealed that the car veered off the road and rolled several times at the corners of Maiuni.
Muli explained that the road has several sharp corners, which have often led to accidents on the road.
Accident along Kisumu-Nairobi highway
In other sad news, two people died following a road accident in Awasi along the Kisumu-Nairobi highway.
The two succumbed to severe head injuries while receiving medical care at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH).
Confirming the Friday, November 17, morning tragedy, Nyanza Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer (RTEO) Allan Mwangi said the accident happened after a tyre on the 14-seater matatu burst.
Seven other passengers from the matatu were also admitted to the referral hospital, undergoing treatment for head and chest injuries.
