Kenyans have taken to social media to reminisce about their love for popular movie commentator DJ Afro, who made an exciting performance during the Jamhuri Day fete.

Kenyans thronged the Uhuru Gardens on Tuesday, December 12, to commemorate the 60th anniversary since Kenya became a republic.

Why do Kenyans miss DJ Afro?

During the celebrations that were presided over by President William Ruto, DJ Afro ignited a wave of nostalgia among Kenyans after he put up an exciting show, much to the pleasant surprise of attendees and Kenyans at large.

In his signature voice, Afro emceed a comedy skit session where he introduced fellow entertainers to entertain the audience.

He introduced, among others, the cast of Vioja Mahakani and Papa Shirandula, and even honoured legendary actors from the two shows who have since passed on.

His voice and presence sparked funny reactions on social media, with many admitting that they grew up watching DJ Afro movies and fell in love with his commentation.

Kenyans scramble for umbrella at Jamhuri Day fete

In other news, as Kenyans were waiting for the president to arrive, there was some drama as some scrambled over umbrellas being distributed at the venue.

The umbrellas were being distributed for free by the government. The scramble could be attributed to the ongoing heavy rains in the country.

Wilson Airport has been closed as Jamhuri Day national celebrations get underway at Uhuru Gardens.
