Mombasa's father has expressed immense happiness as his son achieved outstanding results in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), despite facing challenges in securing school fees.

Wisdom Wanjala Wafula attained an impressive A grade at Kapsabet Boys High School.

In the released results, the student scored an A in biology, mathematics, geography, history/government, and chemistry, an A- in physics and English, and a B+ in Kiswahili.

Wanjala has consistently been the top performer in his classes since grade one.

What led to Wanjala's difficulty in fetching school fees?

George Marofu reflected on a challenging moment when he lost KSh 100,000 in a matatu while en route to clear his son's one-year fees.

"I remember one time when I was going to pay his school fees, I lost the money in a matatu. I had KSh 100,000, but the moment I alighted, I realised I had no money. I went to see his primary school head teacher at Amani Primary and explained it to him," he recounted.

The distressed father revealed that the challenging situation initiated a heartbreaking journey for the family to ensure their brilliant and God-fearing son remained in school.

According to his narration to TUKO.co.ke, Marofu turned to Amani Primary School, where Wanjala had excelled with 424 marks, emerging as the top pupil.

Fortunately, during their conversation, an alumnus of the school walked in and, upon hearing his sad story, pledged to assist with KSh 30,000.

Subsequently, he began applying for bursaries from the Chomvu constituency, and fortunately, they materialised for four consecutive years.

"In the course of that conversation, a friend who is a former pupil at the school joined, and after listening to my story, he offered me KSh 30,000. I paid and applied for CDF bursaries from the Chomvu constituency. That's how I managed to raise his fees until he completed school. I'm proud of him and the results.
"My son is very disciplined and God-fearing. He has been patient and understanding," he added.

Presently, Wanjala is pursuing computer studies with aspirations of venturing into either medicine or an IT course in the near future.

Moi girl's top candidate overjoyed after scoring A plain

Ashley Achieng Miser shared her delight after emerging as the best candidate in the 2023 KCSE results at Moi Girls High School in Eldoret.

The 18-year-old said that the results came as a surprise to her, as she expected to excel but not in an extraordinary way.

Her father, Brighton Miser, echoed her sentiments, stating that despite being a top performer and leaving the primary with 428, the performance exceeded their expectations.

"I expected to excel, but not that high. I would say that it was the handwork of God and hard work," she said.
"Checking her results while I was at work brought happiness, but I composed myself. We knew she would pass but not that much. My wife, although overjoyed, was also occupied at her duty post in Nyando. When I shared the news with my daughter, she became so emotional that she cried. At home, my mother and her siblings joined in the celebration, and we are planning a more elaborate appreciation for her over the weekend," Miser revealed.
