The Board of Management (BOM) of an Elgeyo-Marakwet-based school has treated its teachers for helping the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates record exemplary results.

Timothy Kilimo, Chairman BOM at Moi Kapsowar Girls High School, and Principal Joan Too told TUKO.co.ke that the gesture to take the over 50 teachers to a retreat was to appreciate their efforts in preparing the candidates.

The school recorded a mean score of 7.7344 in the 2023 KCSE examinations, which was a significant improvement from the 7.1282 mean score recorded in 2022. The 2022 score was a slight drop from 2021's 7.2528.
According to results tabulated by the school's Dean of Studies (DOS), Moi Kapsowar Girls High School recorded 15 A-minus, 38 B+, 49 B plains, 58 B minus, 56 C plus, 43 C plains, 23 C minus, 8 D plus, and 2 D plains.
University entry points in Kenya
This means the school has sent 216 out of 293 candidates (73.72%) straight to university for an undergraduate degree. The cutoff point to get direct university admissions in Kenya is a C+.
"The teachers play a vital role in the preparation and moulding of students to pass their exams and become better citizens respectively. We have recorded a significant improvement from last year's performance in KCSE, and we decided to celebrate our able and willing teachers.
"The retreat allowed the teachers a day of fun away from work and brainstorm strategies to perform even better this year. The positive deviation in the mean score means we are moving forward," Kilimo said after the teachers' day out at Tiret Riverside Retreat and Resort.
School flies candidates who scored A-minus
The BOM is remembered for paying for a flight to Nairobi and back to Eldoret International Airport for students who scored A-minus in their mock exams ahead of KCSE in 2023.

Chief Principal JoanToo attributed the continued success to teamwork, dedication, hard work, discipline, and prayers.
"It's teamwork from all stakeholders and working hard for the set targets. We are grateful to God, and we will keep churning out whole-rounded students ready to face the dynamic world," she said, adding that it was motivating to record a positive deviation and that they will be going for higher targets in 2024.
The school has been rising above distractions, including landslides, which once brought down several classrooms and a laboratory.
Moi Kapsowar Girls to unveil ultramodern library
Kilimo also intimated to TUKO.co.ke that the school will unveil a modern library and resource centre and a new bus on Saturday, January 27.
"We are doing our best to have all the important resources that will ensure teaching and learning are happening seamlessly," said Kilimo.
The school is known for actively playing different roles, including tree planting, in conserving the environment.
In 2022, the school raised KSh 200,000 through a charity race to raise fees for brilliant and needy students.
