Ezekiel Gitiba Mwita, commandant of the Border Police Patrol Unit, has been pronounced dead at Matuu Level 4 Hospital in Machakos county.

What led to his death?

The news about his death was reported on Friday, December 15, after his colleagues' attempts to reach him became futile.

The colleagues also reported that the officer had missed reporting to work, prompting them to rush to his home, where they found him lying on the floor, unconscious.

They then rushed him to Matuu Level 4 Hospital, where he died on arrival.

"Today, December 15, 2023, at about midnight, it was reported vide OB No. 2/15/12/202 that one Mr. Ezekiel Gitiba Mwita, Senior Assistant Inspector General, aged 54, who was the Commandant Border Police Patrol Unit, suddenly fell unconscious in his rental house at Matuu Town.
Officers proceeded to the scene and rushed him to Matuu Level 4 Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival," read a police report witnessed by TUKO.co.ke.

According to a police report, an autopsy would be conducted to determine the cause of his death.

"The body was moved to Umash Funeral Home pending autopsy," read part of the police report.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations sleuths attached to Yatta have begun probing the matter.

Mwita was the commandant of the Security of Government Buildings and VIP Protection Unit before he was moved to the Rural Border Patrol Unit (RBPU).

Mwita contributed to national development by interdicting terrorism activities, controlling small arms, and reducing cross-border crimes within and along ports of entry at the Border Police Unit.

Police manning exams dies after short illness

In other news, a police officer who was manning the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) died a few moments after complaining about chest pains.

According to Bomet county Police Commandant Robinson Ndiwa, the officer was pronounced dead on arrival at a medical facility, where he was rushed.

"It is sad that he died. He was a diligent officer from Sotik prison, and before the KCSE started, he was full of life and interacted with his colleagues without showing any signs of ill health," the commandant said.
