The main parameters for the survey to arrive at the best performers were if they are known by Kenyans, trust, visibility, commitment, issues resolution and transparency.

The bottom five, as per Tifa Research, were Alice Wahome of Lands and Housing (24%), Zacharia Njeru of Water and Sanitation (24%), The National Treasury's Njuguna Ndung'u (24%), Gender's Aisha Jumwa (23%) and Davis Chirchir of Energy and Petroleum (19%).

The survey further highlighted the concerns borne by Kenyans about Ruto's administration, including inflation and cost of living, corruption, debt repayment, opposition pressure, and the declining value of the local currency.

"Given the fact that reducing the cost-of-living was such a major part of Kenya Kwanza’s successful 2022 election campaign, its continued rise helps to explain why more Kenyans cited it as the main challenge the Government currently faces (39%)," read an excerpt of the findings.

This came as a host of leaders asked the president to fire some CSs over presumed incompetence.

Why some CSs are wanted out of Cabinet

Governors Muthomi Njuki of Tharaka Nithi and Nyeri's Mutahi Kahiga called on the president to give Chirchir the sack over the frequent nationwide power outages.

"I heard the other day that there will be electricity rationing. How can this happen when we have a lot of water in our dams? It is an irony. We should not get to a point like South Africa," Njuki said.

On his part, Kahiga counselled the president to send home cabinet secretaries who he observed were failing the government.

"The other day I arrived in the county from abroad and was welcomed by a power outage. Such a CS should be sacked early in the morning," said Kahiga.

Earlier, the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) secretary general Francis Atwoli had criticised National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung'u over his remarks on the state of the economy.

Why Atwoli went after CS Ndung'u

He urged the president to fire Ndung'u for publicly claiming the Kenya Kwanza government lacks resources to finance critical programmes.

According to Atwoli, the Treasury CS, supposed to be the bearer of hopes for Kenyans, was busy instilling fear in them by saying the country was broke.

The outspoken trade unionist said Ndung'u should be at the forefront of looking for solutions to the current economic crisis instead of complaining.

"You have asked us to pay for housing levy; where are those houses? You have asked us to pay more taxes, and KRA is on our necks; where is this money going? We know we have external debts Calculate them and let us know if Ndung’u comes out with the report…not to cry the way he was crying…’ this government is broke, I cannot even be able to pay salaries…we’re struggling.
"If I were (President William Ruto) I would sack him the following day! Because yeye ndio mama, anaambia watoto eti sasa hii nyumba sijui mtakula nini…you’re instilling fear!” Atwoli said.
