Trans Nzoia - Agnes Nasimiyu, a needy girl who sat for her 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams at Milimani Botwa Primary School, could not hold back her tears after being granted a full scholarship by Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya.

The scholarship will cover four years of her education at Bunyore Girl's High School, allowing Nasimiyu to pursue her academic dreams despite coming from an underprivileged background.

Nasimiyu's impressive score of 377 marks caught the attention of Natembeya.

"I am very happy to the extent that I have nothing else to say," Nasimiyu said in a TikTok video after being presented with the scholarship.

How George Natembeya seeks to support the education sector

Natembeya later told TUKO.co.ke that he is committed to fostering educational opportunities for deserving students in Trans Nzoia.

"Financial status should not determine a person's future," declared the governor, emphasising his administration's priority of supporting bright students from disadvantaged circumstances.

Natembeya revealed plans for broader educational initiatives in the coming year.

"Next year, we will fully support students who have attained 250 marks or higher and are admitted to day schools across the county," he announced.

This ambitious programme, Natembeya said, aims to provide a significant boost to hundreds of students across Trans Nzoia.

"I'm committed to boosting educational standards in Trans Nzoia and ensuring that no one is left behind in the development of the county," he stated.

Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported that Natembeya came to the aid of Esther Naliaka who is an orphan.

What George Natembeya told Esther Naliaka

Naliaka's dream to join St. Brigid's National School in Kiminini was in limbo after her remarkable performance in KCPE.

In February, the first-time governor said his administration had allocated KSh 125 million for schooling needy students (KSh 100 million for the bursary and KSh 25 million for the scholarship programme).

Natembeya promised to fully support Naliaka as she continues her studies at the prestigious school.

"Si mnajua huyu mtoto, Esther Naliaka? Wanajiweza? Mama hayuko, sindio. Sasa huyu mtoto naenda kumfundisha kuanzia Form One mpaka...an ameitwa national school inaitwa St. Brigid. Sasa huyu pocket money, shopping, kila kitu, nini...(You know its girl, Esther Naliaka? Are they capable? Her mother passed away, right? So, I will educate her from Form One. And she has been called to enrol at St. Brigid National School. I will also take care of her full responsibilities, including pocket money, shopping, and everything)," pledged Natembeya.

Alongside his commitment, the former Rift Valley regional commissioner set a condition for Naliaka: She must be prepared to showcase impressive results.
