President William Ruto has stated that the cost of living continues to get a significant response from the Kenya Kwanza government.

Ruto, who was speaking during the first anniversary of the Hustler Fund at Green Park Garden on November 30, disclosed that the prices of maize flour (unga) have dropped to between KSh 130 and 140.

The president asserted that the interventions his government put in place had played a big role in realising the change.

"We all agreed to adequately address the cost of living. It is one of the big tickets upon which we spoke, conversed, and campaigned. I want to tell the nation that the interventions we made in addressing this big matter of the cost of living are beginning to bear fruit.
Today, I can stand on this podium and say that, at a time like this last year, the cost of unga was KSh 240. As I speak, the prices have dropped to between KSh 140 and 130. And this is the truth!" the president confirmed.

Fertilisers reduced to KSh 2,500

According to the president, he is still committed to fulfilling his campaign manifestos, which means a better Kenya for every Kenyan.

"We promised we would reduce the cost of fertilisers. Earlier, a bag was sold for KSh 7,500; now it goes for KSh 2,500. It is a fact; it is reality. It is for that reason that our farmers patriotically produced food for us," he stated.

Ruto admitted that achieving economic stability will be a gradual process but assured that the government was actively working on enhancing food security to prevent future hunger threats.

Thanks to fertiliser subsidies, unga now sells at KSh 145

During the State of the Nation address on November 9, the president affirmed that the drop in unga prices was attributed to fertiliser subsidies by his administration.

"We reduced fertiliser prices to KSh 2,500, which increased maize acreage under production to 200,000 this year. As a result of these interventions, today a 2kg packet of maize flour is selling at a low of 145 and a high of 175 depending on the brand you buy, down from 250 shillings a few months ago," said Ruto.

However, Kenyans maintained that the prices of unga were still high, expressing mistrust in the president's speech.
