Kitale - Kenyans have lauded footballer Aldrine Kibet for his stellar skills that led his high school team to be crowned the 2023 winners of the coveted football trophy at the secondary schools' games.
Solidarity Boys crowned football champs
Solidarity Boys and their opponents Dagoretti High School will represent Kenya in the East and Central Africa secondary schools' games set to be held in Kigali, Rwanda.
Dagoretti had smashed Agoro Sare in the penalty shootouts to book a spot in the finals.

1. Golden boot winner
Aldrine Kibet, a student at St Anthony's Boys' School in Kitale, was the man to watch as he tore apart the rival team's defence with his goal-poaching skills.
With his lethal touches and fantastic finish in front of goal, he won his school the national secondary school trophy.
2. Pride of Trans Nzoia
Kibet and his teammates were a threat throughout the tournament, from the preliminaries to the final.
After their trophy-winning streak in the Rift Valley games, Kibet and his team were invited by Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya who handed him the golden boot award.
3. Gifted legs
Kibet made easy work of his opponents, outsmarting the goalkeeper with his accurate shots.
His talent did not go unnoticed, and FIFA referee Gilbert Cheruiyot gifted the talented footballer with brand-new boots.
4. Fan favourite
Having scored 25 goals and 27 assists across matches in the tournament, Kibet became an instant celebrity.
After matches, fans trooped to have selfie moments to celebrate the talented footballer and have memorable photos of their meet and greet.
5. Left-footed attacker
Solidarity Boys made it to the finals after defeating Shanderema of Kakamega in a tight match that ended with a solitary goal.
Kibet was on the scoring sheet, scoring the lone goal.
6. The Champions
Throughou the tournament Kibet noted that teamwork had made them emerge victorious in matches.
He noted that the team comprised a large team and that each individual was responsible for their victory.
7. Rift Valley champions
After winning the Rift Valley school games, Kibet sent a warning to his rivals promising a thrilling encounter.
"Top scorer," he proudly wrote on Facebook.
Fans support
The matches were played on Kakamega's Bukhungu turf, which saw thousands of fans throng to watch the talented young boys battle out for top honours.
Fans turned out in large numbers to witness the spectacle that was a display of football artistry, from beautifully curved kicks to unstoppable shots on target.
Dreams of playing for Manchester United
Super striker Kibet in a post on Instagram disclosed that he hopes to play for 20 time English Premier League champions Manchester United.
He wrote:
"When I grow up, I want to play for @ManUtd."
Governor Natembeya cheers on St Anthony's team
Prior to the finals, on Friday, August 11, the team received a special phone call from Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya who lauded them for their remarkable performance.
"Tunataka mabao kwanza ile ya haraka haraka ya mwanzo. Unajua ukishinda timu ambayo inacheza kwao nyumbani hiyo ndio championship. (We need early and fast goals. You know when you defeat the home team that's being a champion,)" Natembeya said.
He charged up the talented boys, promising them goodies during the call.
He said:
"We need early and fast goals. You know when you defeat the home team that's being a champion. If you defeat them I will be with you tomorrow. You know when I come there are goodies, right? For every goal, there is a gift. We are together in this."
