Siaya - A sombre mood engulfed Bondo stadium in Siaya county as Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leaders paraded the caskets of 12 victims of police brutality during the last anti-government protests.
Azimio leader Raila Odinga leading the interdenominational requiem mass on Friday, August 11, accused the government of engaging in activities that subvert the constitution.
"We have a constitution that protects the rights of the people but the people bestowed with power in our country do not respect that constitution. And that is why an order can be issued of shoot-to-kill," Raila said.

Raila's running mate in the 2022 presidential polls Martha Karua also present said:

"These killings will be avenged. The blood of these innocent Kenyans will be avenged. You can sign as many treaties as you like but they are all null and void under the laws of Kenya and you and your officers will pay for this."
Citizen TV reported that the Azimio leaders said the issue of police brutality will not be conversed at the dialogue table but will instead be escalated.
"I don't believe that this matter of police brutality is even for our dialogue team. This is a bigger issue," said Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
On her part, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga said.
"The insensitivity with which you spoke, these are real parents, these are real people, these are real youth of Kenya."
Angered by the recent remarks by Koome that they hired bodies from morgues, Azimio has now threatened to table a censure motion against the police boss.

Koome has also been accused of overseeing the killings that have sent dozens of protesters to the graves.
"Tunataka tukitoka hapa tuanze ile process ya kumng'oa mamlakani Koome akome kuwa IG wa Republic of Kenya. We are planning that when we leave here, we start the process of removing Koome from office,)" DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa said.
On his part, Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma said:
"As leaders, we cannot be crying with the people as if we don't have solutions. The constitution allows for the bringing of a petition to remove an inspector general of police who is rogue,"
Siaya governor James Orengo said he has all the postmortem reports showing that all the victims of police brutality died of gunshot wounds.
Azimio leader's message to mourners
Raila further told the mourners that their cries will not go unanswered.
"This is not right. ICC should remain true to its mandate by protecting and defending the rights of the people across the world," Raila said.
Azimio has also called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to take stock of the human rights violations in the country.
In a related story, TUKO.co.ke earlier reported that Raila disclosed plans to change how they express displeasure with President William Ruto's administration.
The ODM leader decried killings attributed to the police during the three-day anti-government protests, stating that there were many ways of killing a cat.
Raila declared that the coalition party doesn't have to call their supporters to the streets for their voices to be heard.
The former premier observed that staying indoors was also a form of protest that would show the displeasure of most Kenyans.
