Nyandarua - Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has challenged Azimio leader Raila Odinga to join the fight for Mau Mau lands.

The DP stated that former vice president and Raila's father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, was a courageous man he held with high regard.

Gachagua recognised the founding VP's contribution in the fight to return Mau Mau veterans' land after independence.

He pointed out that it was during his clamour for the return of the lands that he wrote the book Not Yet Uhuru, adding that independence was achieved, but the land was not gained.

"We highly recognise your father, Jaramogi, for fighting for the oppressed. Especially for standing up for the Mau Mau people. That's why he wrote a book and said, 'Not Yet Uhuru.' Because independence was achieved, but land was not. He was right and spot on. Your father was courageous, and I hold him in high regard," he said.

He spoke on Friday, August 25, in the afternoon during the burial of Mau Mau freedom fighter Brigadier John Kiboko in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County.

Gachagua's plea to Raila

He appealed to the ODM leader to take up the fight and continue in his father's quest to give back land to the Mau Mau.

Gachagua observed that Raila had been recognised for fighting for Kenyans facing oppression, and it was time he fought for the independence war veterans.

The second in command said those who grabbed Mau Mau lands were known to Raila, claiming they were his friends.

"You are known for fighting for the disadvantaged Kenyans. I would respectfully ask you to follow in your father's footsteps; advocate for the Mau Mau land. And those who possess those lands, you know them well; they are your friends. Help us with that," he concluded.

Gachagua asks Mama Ngina to donate land to Mau Mau

In April, Gachagua challenged founding first lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta to donate her family's land to the Mau Mau veterans and their descendants.

The second in command sarcastically thanked Mama Ngina for thinking about the liberation struggle's fighters.

His sentiments came a day after Mama Ngina bought field marshal Muthoni Kirima a new house and also paid for her KSh 4 million loan.
