During a burial in Machakos, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua claimed ODM leader Raila Odinga had been paid off by the ruling coalition to stop the anti-government protests.
In the course of the week, a 47-year-old man allegedly killed his wife following a disagreement of KSh 3,000.

1. Mombasa man who travelled to Oloitoktok dies after lover dumps him
A Mombasa man who travelled all the way from the coast to Isinet to visit his girlfriend died on the morning of Wednesday, August 23.
The 24-year-old man is said to have travelled from Mombasa to visit his lover, who lives in Isinet, but upon arrival, he found out that she was no longer interested in being with him romantically.
A report shared by Inooro FM indicated that the devastated man started a fire and ended up dying in the inferno.
TUKO.co.ke also reached out to a resident and eyewitness who said the man was disappointed after finding out that his girlfriend was already romantically involved with a hotel owner.
The eyewitness revealed that the agitated boyfriend tossed petrol at his girlfriend and lit the fire. The woman survived, albeit with burns on several parts of her body.
2. Kenyan journalist jailed over wife's death narrates how she died
A former Kenyan journalist serving a 10-year jail sentence over the killing of his wife gave a chilling account of how their domestic altercation became fatal on the fateful day she died.
Moses Dola was in 2018 sentenced to 10 years in prison for the killing after the judge found he was a stronger party in the fight that led to her death.
Speaking on Inooro TV's Njera-Ini Citu (Our Prisons), Dola narrated how he and his wife fell in love while working as journalists in a leading Kenyan media house.
He was a renowned investigative journalist who did major stories during his stint at the NMG, Radio Africa and Citizen TV.
In his chilling account, the journalist said on May 1, 2011, he woke up early to listen to some music, and when he went back to the bedroom, he found his lover infuriated and complaining the music was too loud.
The convict said a heated argument would then ensue, and he claimed that his wife charged at him with a pair of scissors in her hand.
"She saw me pick up our son, and she came at me with the scissors in hand. I tried to evade her, and it is at that moment that we all fell. Unfortunately, she hit her head against the bed, and her injuries were fatal," he said.
3. Raila Odinga returns from UK to treat Wife Ida
As the week winded up, Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga treated his wife Ida to a fancy birthday party in a fancy five-star hotel in Nairobi.
Raila, who has been in the United Kingdom for the past few days to rest, returned to the country to celebrate Mama Ida, who turned 73 on August 24, 2023.
From the photos shared by Busia woman representative Catherine Omanyo, Ida was seen arriving at Villa Rosa Kempinski in a luxurious decorated vehicle, and she was helped out of it by her husband.
The party was attended by leading Opposition leaders such as Martha Karua, who joined the star-studded celebration.
4. Gachagua claims gov't paid Raila
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua suggests the ongoing bipartisan talks would not yield anything to the advantage of Kenyans.
According to him, the engagements are a decoy of self-pleasing expedients advanced behind the scenes by Azimio La Umoja leader Raila Odinga.
He said Raila was 'sorted' in Mombasa in an unpublicised meeting with President William Ruto.
The deputy president claimed that Raila approached Ruto for a share of government and ambassadorial posts, but all were in vain.
He revealed that Raila was instead offered an unmentioned amount of money on condition that he quit his anti-government politicking.
"There is nothing else he wants. He wanted a handshake and three ambassadorial posts, but we declined his demands. We told him if he wants some money, then we can discuss," he said.
5. Kenya Power apologises to customers over nationwide blackout
On Friday, August 25, several parts of the country were plunged into darkness after a nationwide blackout hit Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC).
In a statement, the monopoly electricity distributor noted it experienced a system disturbance at 9:45 pm leading to the loss of bulk power supply to various parts.
On Saturday, August 26, morning, KPLC confirmed it had restored electricity to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Nairobi and the Mt Kenya regions. However, other parts were still affected by the power loss.
"Our teams are working to restore electricity to all areas across the country that were affected by the outage. We apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused and thank them for their patience," KPLC stated.
