"After having a BMT bone marrow transplant in Turkey, he got well and went home, then going for check-up, they found out the cancer has metastasised," said Leila.
The six-year-old was first diagnosed with cancer when he was just one year and seven months old in March 2018, and his family had a glimmer of hope when he underwent the transplant.
Over two years, he received several treatments, including induction, consolidation, and maintenance courses, guided by the expertise of Oncologist Nyambura Kariuki.
Boy's father was grateful for support they received
The family navigated the challenging road to securing finances for the comprehensive treatment package, which included diagnostics, chemotherapy, and the crucial bone marrow transplant.
Muhammad's father, Soud, expressed their gratitude for the support they received during this critical time.
At the time, he said,
"We managed to raise enough funds for the chemotherapy, but the urgency for funds for the bone marrow transplantation remained."
The medical team's best efforts could not prevent the aggressive progression of the disease.
Muhammad's journey resonated with many, highlighting families' emotional and financial strains when dealing with life-threatening illnesses.
Boy who developed mouth cancer given days to live
In a separate story, Master Denzel Omondi Odiwuor was given only a few days to live unless something was done about the mouth cancer that had tormented him and shut his mouth.
In an interview with TUKO.co.ke, his uncle, John Owino, said that it all started with a tooth removal typical for kids around his age.
"After the tooth was removed, he started feeling a lot of pain in the mouth and shortly afterwards, it started swelling. Within a few days, the whole mouth was swollen," said Owino.
"The right jaw closed up completely; his tongue can't move as well. He cant eat or drink anything, and his mouth is discharging a lot of puss," he revealed.
