Budgeting finances well can determine whether a person sinks or swims financially. A young TikToker has taken it upon himself to help people living in Nairobi on a KSh 50,000 salary live comfortably.

Electricity should cost KSh 1000

According to Good Joseph, capping one's rent at 30% of one's salary will go a long way in helping them save money.

Ideally, 30% of KSh 50.000 is KSh 15,000, but he recommended squeezing it to about KSh 13 500 to save more.

"If you live below the KSh 13, 500 that is even better," he said.

Transport was the second item after rent on Joseph's list, and he asked people to use between KSh 4500 and KSh 6000.

Entertainment and fees have same amount

Despite the skyrocketing cost of electricity in the country, TikToker asked people to use KSh 1000- KSh 1500 for electricity tokens.

"Food should go hand in hand with the amount you have set aside for rent," he said of the burning question in most people's minds when a budget is mentioned.

Entertainment and school fees were lumped together at KSh 4000 while he recommended KSh 11,000 to go into savings.

"Save as much as you pay rent; pick a sacco where you can invest the money because you cannot be wealthy with savings. You will have shares, be entitled to a loan or buy an asset," he said.
