The National Youth Service (NYS) graduate has never missed any recruitment since he set his eyes on KDF.

On Monday, August 28, he showed up at the Kapsabet Showground armed with his documents, recommendations, and other testimonials to try his luck for the umpteenth time.

Cheruiyot was eyeing a constabulary post which is open to NYS service people with ages between 35 and 45 years.

"There was nothing unusual that I did. I told my wife in the morning that I would be attending KDF recruitment. I was ready for any fate. After all, I had nothing to lose, but kept the faith that one day I would become a soldier," Cheruiyot was quoted by The Standard as having said.

He succeeded in all the tests and was green-lighted to proceed to the next phase of the recruitment.

"Joining the military has been my dream since I was a boy. Eventually, it has come to pass. It has always been my prayer, and with persistence and determination, God has enabled me," he said.

2. Daily Nation

The daily reported on Embakasi East MP Babu Owino being absolved of accusations of misusing his firearm.

He had been accused of allegedly shooting Felix Orinda, alias DJ Evolve, with whom he had been revelling in a club in Nairobi's Kilimani area.

In a lengthy verdict, senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi said that the prosecution could not prove that the lawmaker was drunk and disorderly during the shooting incident.

Ochoi added that the prosecution failed to prove that the bullet that hit Evolve emanated from Babu's firearm.

The magistrate observed that the case was of great public interest, but the investigations were shoddy, especially on exhibits, and that no medical evidence proved that Babu's firearm injured Evolve.

Earlier, Ochoi had recognised that the lawmaker elected on an ODM ticket had been taking good care of the DJ.

Reacting to the development, the lawmaker attributed everything to his God, saying the direction of the case was His doing.

Babu, however, stated that the verdict would not be the end of things, explaining that he was looking forward to Evolve's complete recovery, which he said would be the main victory.

The publication reported on President William Ruto's remarks on investors, which have drawn harsh criticism his way.

A section of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leaders faulted his supposed threats to stakeholders in the sugar industry.

The leaders were responding to comments made by Ruto in Bungoma on Sunday, August 27, on sugar cartels.

Ruto vowed to either jail, deport or 'send to heaven' the people he said are bedevilling the sugar sector to the detriment of farmers.

Addressing the press on Tuesday, August 29, and led by Kilifi senator Stewart Madzayo, he said the ripple effect of the utterances by the head of state could not be assumed.

"We, Azimio condemn such utterances made by the president since this is a democratic country governed by the rule of law, and the ripple effect of such statements cannot be off-stated," Madzayo said.

Madzayo, who leads the Opposition in the Senate, explained that it was unfortunate for the president to threaten investors in the country at a roadside meeting.

"I am enraged by the reckless remarks at a roadside meeting in Bungoma concerning the alleged cartels frustrating the sugar industry. It is quite disturbing to hear that a whole president is threatening investors in Kenya by claiming that they are arrested, deported or taken to heaven."

He suggested there could be better ways of addressing the matter than the president of a democratic country issuing threats by the roadside.

The Kilifi senator said they are ready for a proposal in Parliament that will roar the engines in the company.

"We will await a proposal in Parliament that will revive a once proud industry, restore hope and improve the livelihoods of the many sugarcane farmers in the western region," he said.

4. People Daily

The publication spared space for the launch of new uniforms for the National Police Service (NPS) officers.

In a statement on Tuesday, August 29, NPS asked Kenyans to comment on the new sets of designs proposed by the government.

"The National Police Service kindly invites members of the public to participate in the selection process for the proposed Kenya Police Service uniform," said NPS.

The public participation exercise is set to take place between August 29 and Thursday, August 31, at various venues.

The exercise will be held at Kenya Police Pavilion, South C, Nairobi, on August 29, Central Region at Ruring'u Police Training College on August 30, and National Police College-Main Campus Kiganjo on August 31.

The new designs would replace the current royal blue regalia, introduced in 2018 by former president Uhuru Kenyatta's administration.

5. The Star

The newspaper spared space for the tribulations suffered by billionaire Jaswant Rai Singh who was kidnapped in broad daylight on August 25.

Unknown people got hold of the Rai Group chairman while in his vehicle in Nairobi's Kilimani area.

He was let free on Sunday, August 27, two days later.

Jaswant was taken to hospital after developing complications during grilling by the police.

He had confided in the state law enforcers that the kidnappers gave back his KSh 20,000 and the watch they had seized from him.
