" It (domestic violence) happened in South Africa," said Mumbi on the Jeremy Damaris YouTube channel.
The indefatigable Mumbi worked her out of South Africa and ended up in the United Kingdom, where she worked so hard to bring her husband and kids to the country. Sadly, upon his arrival in the UK, Mumbi's husband had other plans, as detailed in her book More than Just a Face.
Mumbi gets 15 surgeries
"I hoped and prayed, but things didn't change, they went the other way and I ended up in hospital dying and it is only it is by the mercies of God I lived to tell the story," Mumbi.
"I had stayed in the country for eight months and I had clinched visas for him and all my kids but he left them in Kenya. When he came, I was very disappointed because he left the children," she continued.
After trying to understand why her husband came alone, she realised it was an exercise in futility and opted to go and get them herself. A quarrel ensued that night, and he almost murdered her.
Mumbi's hubby bites her nose
"He cut up my face with a knife and bit my nose; the doctors later had to repair my nose. I thought I would bleed to death, and he took the mobile phone and threw it against the wall. He stood against the kitchen counter and refused to call an ambulance he said he had come to kill me, finish me off," she said.
"He was trying to cut my neck off; I do have scars here and I was fighting for the neck. He cut my ear lobe to the ground. Healing was a long journey like 15 surgical operations; they created skin from my scal to make my nose.
Abbie eventually got the phone and called an ambulance, and she was rushed to hospital. Her husband was taken to jail but has since come out and was deported.
