Kenyans Decry Electricity Outage As KPLC Announces Further Interruptions In 7 Counties

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced a further interruption in electricity supply in seven counties.

This followed the sudden nationwide blackout that hit the country on Friday, August 25.

Nairobi, other counties affected by KPLC interruption

KPLC scheduled maintenance in the counties of Nairobi, Kiambu, Makueni, Murang'a, Nyeri, Kirinyaga and Mombasa on Wednesday, August 30.

"These areas will be affected by planned power interruptions tomorrow," said KPLC on X platform.

The areas affected in Nairobi include part of Kayole, Saika, Maili Saba, Mwengenye, Njiru, Slaughter House, KPC Factory, Danmills, Komarock Sector 1, Kayole Junction, Kayole Primary, Kayole Police Station and adjacent areas.

Others are Dagoretti, Karen, Warai South, and North Road, The Hub, Link Road, Don Bosco, and adjacent areas.

Kenyans react to frequent KPLC blackouts

Most Kenyans expressed their disappointment in the utility firm, urging it to restore power in their residential and business areas.

"In our area Tassia II power lost at around 2:30pm, still we are in darkness."

"When Kenya power decides to humble you while your neighbours have lights... KPLC you remain undefeated 100%, Check power in this area, please."

@halimansangou requested;

"Can we please have power restored in Kinondo, Ukunda. Since yesterday we've had a blackout and nothing is being done!!!"

KPLC switched off power in three regions for maintenance on Tuesday, August 29.

Kenya Power's frequent maintenance angers Kenyans

The electricity distributor noted power would be switched off in some parts of Nairobi, North Eastern and Mombasa for scheduled maintenance.

On Monday, August 28, KPLC also announced more electricity interruptions in Nairobi, North Eastern and parts of Mombasa county.

The move sparked mixed reactions among Kenyans, complaining about the continued interruption after the nationwide blackout.

"For the last 48 hours, we've been without power. Riana ward, Kisii. Our lines have no power from the airstrip, Suneka going down towards Riana Center."

Moni Liech complained;

"Friday August 25 was a countywide power blackout which lasted till late August 27 and just when we thought all was well, another blackout since 7pm August 28 has occurred around Joska area Kangundo Road and power is not yet restored."
