Kiambu - Chaos erupted at a bursary disbursement event by Governor Kimani Wamatangi in Ruiru constituency.

What caused the chaos at Wamatangi's event

Trouble began after a group interrupted Wamatangi's speech on Wednesday, August 30, demanding to be included on the list of beneficiaries.

Police officers intervened and quelled the near-violent confrontation at the PCEA Membley Church in Gitothua ward, Citizen TV reported.

Residents demanded that the governor give the MCAs the leading role in issuing bursaries because they are the people.

"We want the Governor to give the cheques to our Members of County Assembly to bring the bursaries to places close to us.
We should not be walking for several kilometres to come all the way to Kiambu town for a distribution exercise which can easily be done in places near our homes," a resident lamented after the chaos.

Local MCAs accused the Governor of sidelining them and mismanaging County affairs such as the county’s chicken and pigs distribution program.

Senator Karungo warns Wamatangi

Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa also joined the MCAs in criticizing Wamatangi’s leadership style, arguing that his lack of cooperation is affecting the county's development.

The senator regretted that Wamangati had not changed his style of governance despite interventions by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

“We started with the mediation meeting, but it did not work. I even asked the Deputy President to invite us to a meeting with the governor and in the meeting, he was addressing irrelevant issues like being removed from a WhatsApp group,” Karungo said.

According to Karungo, the embattled senator might be impeached if he continues to sideline other elected leaders in the county.

Karugo claimed that even President William Ruto was concerned with Wamatang'i leadership style.

“After the discussion with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, he did not heed the call to work with the people. It took the president’s intervention when he was in Githurai, where he told him if he cannot work towards the manifesto of Kenya Kwanza, then he cannot be part of us. It will not be easy for you if you don’t change,” he added.

MCA stage protest at Wamatangi's office

Early this year, the Kiambu ward representatives protested at the governor's office, accusing him of belittling them.

In a video seen by TUKO.co.ke, the MCAs could be heard singing anti-Wamatangi songs as they threatened to introduce an impeachment motion against the governor.

The MCAs claimed the first-term governor had failed to listen to their grievances.
