"Doctors have operated on him two times but there was no change," she added.
Maina misses Form One classes
After Class Eight, Maina learned nothing in Form One as his leg started giving him problems, and he underwent his first major operation at Kitale District Hospital.
The second major operation was done at a Nairobi hospital when he was in Form Four
"He also skipped a lot of lessons in second term because of that leg," said Wanjiku.
"Despite the ups and downs because of his leg, he performed so well and was called to Chuka University to study Mental Health and Psychology," she said of the young man who is also a very good dancer despite his leg problem.
Maina's parents separated when he was just a little boy, and that left his single mum with the burden of raising six kids all alone.
His mum couldn't afford his fees, so he had to stay home for two years after leaving high school.
