Kenyans have been left in stitches after a man was seen soliciting funds from the public to bail out Mathee Wa Ngara.

Crowdfunding for Mathee Wa Ngara

The man identified as Rasta Ndegwa in the video, dressed in the recognisable red, gold, and green Rasta colours, sought to collect donations to release the suspected drug trafficker from custody.

“Nataka kuchangishia Mathee Wa Ngara tumpe bond atoke," he said. (I want to raise money for Mathee Wa Ngara so that we can bail her out).

In the hilarious video shared on X, Ndegwa boldly approached a police Landcruiser and solicited the officer's support for his fundraising endeavour.

He said:

“Naitwa Rasta Ndegwa, sasa tulikuwa tunachangia Mathee Wa Ngara mulimshika." (My name is Rasta Ndegwa, we are raising money for Mathee Wa Ngara whom you arrested).

The driver, who is clearly not amused by his request, told him off, ordering him to close the door before he drove away.

“Mathee Wa Ngara siwezi changia. Funga mlango,” the police driver barked. (I cannot contribute to Mathee Wa Ngara. Close the door.”

Mathee Wa Ngara seeks court protection

On Monday, Nancy Kigunzu alias Mathee Wa Ngara moved to court to block her impending arrest.

Kigunzu described herself as a law-abiding Kenyan with a legitimate source of income. Citizen TV reported.

"The applicant is of the firm belief that the timing of the arrest is designed to intimidate and ensure that she does not continue running her business here in Kenya," read court documents filed by her lawyer Shanice Maingi.

She asked the court to grant her anticipatory bail or bond, arguing she was willing to avail herself before a just and fair legal system in which her fundamental rights are respected.
