1. Journalist on mission to transform former deskmate
Baringo journalist John Macharia and 34-year-old Eric Kipchumba were desk mates at Shimoni Primary School in Eldama Ravine back then.
However, life for Kipchumba did not take the direction when he was in Form 3 as he developed mental problems and dropped out of school.
Since then, the once brilliant young man has lost direction and slumped into the world of homelessness and substance use.
It is a sad state of affairs that made Macharia decide to intervene and assist the young man in getting back on track.
He told TUKO.co.ke that whenever he visits the village and runs into the friend, his heart sinks to see him in such a poor state.
“It's extremely sad to see your classmate looking that dishevelled. It even makes me ashamed whenever people remind me about his case,” he said.
For this reason, Macharia started a project meant to uplift Kipchumba's life and take him off the streets.
2. Man who missed KSh 315m jackpot wants to fly in chopper
Silas Omondi missed winning the SportPesa Mega Jackpot by a whisker and was awarded a handsome bonus for his efforts.
That, however, did not stop him from believing that he would soon walk away with the KSh 315 million that was at stake for the lucky winner.
What's even more interesting is that he has already envisioned himself as the winner and knows how he wants to be treated on that day.
In a video by SportPesa Care, Omondi boldly claimed that he should be picked up in a helicopter if he emerges as the winner of the jaw-dropping millions on offer.
"Mtakuja nyumbani ama pahali nitakuwa na ndege mnibebe. Tutakalia na watoto, na shosho,. (You will come for me at home or wherever I will be with a chopper, then I shall board with my children and my grandmother)," he said joyfully.
The statement sparked a mixture of amusement and disbelief among other betting enthusiasts and the general public.
3. Kiambu toddler who went missing found dead
This week, a family was inconsolable following the death of their son, who was reported missing a day before his demise.
Zayed Mukolwe was reported missing on Sunday, August 6, around noon while playing with his friends.
The three-and-a-half-year-old boy was last seen in his home area in Gachiriro, Discovery Area, Mwihoko, Kiambu county.
Mukolwe was last seen wearing a grey sweater, white pair of shorts with Adidas branding and yellow crocs.
"He was a bubbly child like any other. He was playing with the other children just around the estate. Most likely, someone must have failed to lock the gate, and he walked outside when no one was watching," Hassan Gaza told TUKO.co.ke.
A woman saw the young man as he entered another neighbourhood but did not follow up as she thought he had a guardian.
4. Meru man narrates heartbreaking fall from famed DJ
Three years ago, DJ Rodney had the world at his palm, selling his deejaying art from one club to the other and living on cloud nine.
Rodney was living the dream for a man who was born an "illegitimate" child and lived in the streets before building himself into a remarkable DJ who plays music without a headphone.
Everything he had worked for turned the dream into a nightmare when the pandemic hit, and the showbiz industry took a beating.
It happened that things went south at the same time his son Tafari had been born, compounding his woes tenfold.
Rodney told TUKO.co.ke that he is now a pauper living from hand to mouth, unaware of where the next meal will come from.
In a little room they call home are a few odds and ends, one borrowed sufuria and a borrowed jiko that seldom warms them because they rarely light it up.
5. Final moments of stunt star who fell to death from 68th floor
On Wednesday, August 2, French daredevil and Instagram sensation Remi Lucidi, known as "Remi Enigma," met his death after falling from the 68th floor of the Tregunter Tower.
Lucidi supposedly gained unauthorised access to the towering skyscraper by convincing a security guard that he was visiting a friend on the 40th floor.
He, however, made his way to the building's pinnacle and was captured on surveillance cameras exiting the elevator on the 49th floor before reaching the top floor through a forced-open door.
Realising that his life was in danger, Lucidi attempted to seek help when he spotted a maid inside the building.
He knocked on the window in a bid to convey his predicament, after which the maid alerted the authorities.
However, it was a little too late as the stuntman lost his footing and tumbled to his death from the towering structure before assistance arrived.
