Who is Tupac Shakur?

Tupac was born Lesane Parish Crooks on 16 June 1971 in East Harlem, New York, United States, to William Jefferson Garland (father) and Afeni Shakur (mother). His parents were former Black Panther Party members, a Marxist-Leninist and black power political organisation founded by college students.

Afeni was an activist and businesswoman. She passed away on 2 May 2016, reportedly due to cardiac arrest. She was married to Mutulu Shakur between 1975 and 1982 and had children with him. Mutulu was a well-known doctor, politician, and activist.

He died of bone marrow malignancy on 6 July 2023. Tupac had no close relationship with his biological father, William Garland, and that could explain why the popular rapper took his step-father's last name, Shakur.
