Nairobi - Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro's official Facebook account is in the hands of an anonymous hacker who has been making a series of posts.

The hacker has posted raunchy videos on the account's stories, calling on his followers to click and view complete videos.

In most cases, the links act as baits, and once a curious user taps on the call to action, the hackers gain access to their accounts, too.

Most posts on the MP's timeline have remained unchanged, indicating the hackers have yet to gain complete control of it.

Nyoro explained on X that his account was hacked on Monday, January 1, but he was working to restore it.

"My Facebook page was hacked yesterday. We are trying to resolve the problem. We are African and Africa is our Business," he said.

In a statement on Facebook on Tuesday, January 2, Digital strategist Dennis Itumbi confirmed that Nyoro was not in control of his account.

Itumbi urged Kenyans to ignore any messages sent from the account as they work to restore control.

"Please take note that hackers have taken control of the FB profile of Ndindi Nyoro and the official page Ndindi Nyoro. Ignore the updates and Inbox messages being shared by the hackers. We are working to recover and restore the pages...," he wrote.

The hackers asked Embakasi East MP Babu Owino for cash, a proposition he denied before sharing it on X.

Man hacks Ochillo Ayacko's account

Cases of political leaders losing control of their accounts to hackers have been on the rise, especially over the past year.

In November 2023, Migori governor Ochillo Ayacko's official Facebook account was taken over by an unknown hacker.

The hacker claimed one of the administrators paid him to take over the page.

"I have been paid by Domick Akugo to hack this page. Domnick clear my balance or I expose you," he claimed.

The man was in charge of the page for the better of Saturday, November 4. He suggested he would return the page if his dues were settled.

Kabarak University hacked

In May 2023, an Indonesia-based hacker caused a frenzy in the country after taking over the official Facebook page of Kabarak University.

The social media platform, which has over 43,000 followers, began posting questionable posts on the night of Thursday, May 4.

Kenyans online discovered that things were not okay for the private university after the profile image was changed to a photo of a man of Asian descent.

Immediately after taking over the page, the hacker began making posts contradicting the institution's Christian beliefs and foundation.

The hacker enjoyed access to the page for a couple of days; he would once come out to demand KSh 67,000 from the institution before handing back the page.

After successfully seeking the help of Facebook ITR experts, the university regained full access to the page from which they deleted all the naughty posts uploaded by the hacker.
