Nairobi - Former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich has for the first time opened up about his tribulations in the hands of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) before being bundled out of office.

On Thursday, December 14, Rotich was acquitted in the Arror and Kimwarer dam scandal.

"I would put it probably on what was happening post-2017 elections (handshake) and the reasons why it is not with the investigator because probably he wanted that office to be held by a different person," Rotich said.

Speaking to NTV Kenya on the evening of Tuesday, December 19, Rotich accused the DCI of harassment.

"How he did it, I found it very primitive. I remember the DCI writing to me like a small baby, forgetting that I was the minister of finance. He said, can you bring those documents by noon? I thought this was not how the government worked," Rotich added.

Why Henry Rotich read mischief in his tribulations

According to Rotich, he had never received a letter from someone asking for documents that he didn't have.

"The DCI knew he should have gone to the parent ministry or the state agency. So, we supplied some of the documents. If they were helpful to them, I don't know; maybe he had already made up his mind to arrest me," said Rotich.

TUKO.co.ke earlier reported that President William Ruto spoke about Rotich´s acquittal.

How William Ruto defended Henry Rotich

During a roundtable media interview on Sunday, December 17, Ruto said Rotich was freed because the previous administration politically instigated the case against him.

According to Ruto, the KSh 63 billion case was purely political, and the former CS had done nothing wrong that warranted his prosecution.

"I said on the campaign trail that the case for Kimwarer was a fraud because that case was being used politically. That is why I have told the investigative agencies I do not want them to help me with politics, I will do my politics. They should dispense justice," Ruto said.

He claimed the Jubilee Party government ensured the Kimwarer and Arror dam projects did not take off as planned by refusing to hand over the land for the dams.
