A young girl who almost missed out on secondary education performed excellently in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.

Njonjo High School KCSE results

In January 2020, Mary Wangeci Njeri was on the brink of missing out on joining secondary school because of a lack of school fees.

Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) State Department for Foreign Affairs nominee Cate Waruguru came to her rescue, ensuring she attended school and continued with her studies.

Four years later, the politician was over the moon after Njeri passed her national examination with flying colours.

"Congratulations to Njeri Mary Wangeci of Njonjo Girls High School on your sterling performance in the just released KCSE results; A mean Grade of B+ is commendable. Yours is a journey marred with determination, perseverance and discipline.
Despite the insecurity incidences witnessed in Olmoran- your home area- during your form one transition and the financial constraints that came with it you have surpassed all obstacles and have excelled. I treasure the journey we have walked together over time, and I look forward to its continuity as you venture into the next phase of your education," part of her caption read.

Njeri studied at Njonjo Girls High School.

Waruguru shared pictures of Njeri when she resumed school with a bucket, mattress and a metallic box.

Meru School 2023 KCSE results

Mati scored a B+ in English, an A in Kiswahili, a B+ in mathematics, biology, physics and chemistry, a B in geography and an A in computer studies.
