Kenya has announced plans to export labour to Israel, specifically for roles in the country's thriving agriculture sector, in a move aimed at bolstering the country's international employment opportunities.

This announcement came after a series of bilateral discussions between top officials and stakeholders, opening a new avenue for Kenyan workers seeking employment abroad.

Number of jobs

The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection revealed that the initiative, spearheaded by PS Shadrack Mwadime and Rami Cohen, the managing director of Guri Avocados from Israel, is set to create approximately 1,500 positions for Kenyan workers.

KSh 229k income

These opportunities offer a guaranteed net income of $1,500 (approximately KSh 229,000) per month and come with renewable contracts spanning three years.

"These opportunities number about 1,500 with a guaranteed net income of $1,500 per month, on 3 years renewable contracts. The programme will be implemented by a number of local @nea_kenya (Kenya National Employment Authority) licensed agencies," the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection tweeted on X.

Focus of the discussions

During the discussions attended by Eric Rutto, President of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), the focus was on forging a mutually beneficial arrangement that ensures sustainable employment for Kenyan citizens while addressing the agricultural labour demands in Israel.

Implementation of the programme

The programme's implementation will be overseen by a consortium of local agencies licensed by the Kenya National Employment Authority (KNEA).

KNEA is dedicated to formulating and executing employment policies and programmes aimed at creating lasting and viable employment opportunities for all Kenyans.

Kenyan human capital ranked best

In other related news, President William Ruto revealed that the World Economic Forum ranked Kenya's human capital as the best globally.

Ruto urged global employers looking for employees from different fields to consider Kenyans who have the required skills.

"The World Economic Forum has rated Kenya's human capital as the best in the world. So if you are looking for people to work in your business or enterprise or investment and you need engineers or bankers or investment people or whatever you need, you will find them in Kenya," said Ruto.
