Philanthropist Ndungu Nyoro can't keep calm after a lady he helped start a business showed him steadily growing profits.

Shopkeeper posts KSh 90,000 in November

In September, Nyoro shared a story of one of his students in the Affecto program who asked him to support her mum, who was working as a nanny, to start a small business.

Nyoro obliged and started a shop for her; three months later, she is posting profits that have been steadily growing.

In September, she posted KSh 30,245, in October, she had KSh 53, 835 and in November, she had Ksh 90,010.

"From the look of things, she is having sleepless nights planning how to improve sales. It's an opportunity she grabbed with her two hands. We can't wait to see what this business will give birth to," said Nyoro in a Facebook post in November.
"During that month, she received KShs 2,500 through Paybill number 957923 from an online friend to support this cause. We received KSh 10,000 donation from our dear friends at Fanaka Real Estate Ltd to increase her stock," he added.

Nyoro boosts woman with KSh 15,000

"Don't you love the trend? The kujituma spirit in this mum is commendable," said Nyoro.
"Last week I had a meeting with her at the office; she had come to collect a cheque of KSh 15,000 to boost her stock. When I shared this story on Facebook a week or so ago, we got friends who sent donations to boost her business. This is the money we were handing over to her," he said on December 5.

According to Nyoro, the lady was happy and intended to add cereals to her business.

"She hopes to tap into more customers and hopefully add cosmetics next year if funds allow. She was very jovial as she shared this plan with me, he said.

How does Nyoro help her thrive?

In an interview with TUKO.co.ke, Nyoro said they assigned the woman someone to advise her.

One of our Affecto champions, who is a third-year university student, has been tasked to explore business viability, provide advice, and follow up on progress.

"She also visits the business as part of ensuring we have a better understanding of what is happening on the ground. The parent has also been guided in tracking daily, weekly and monthly sales. Expenditure is also tracked to monitor profitability," he revealed.
"But all in all, it has a lot to do with her attitude and aggressiveness. We are piloting to see whether this economic strengthening model can work in the households where our beneficiaries come from," he added.

Girl thanks Ndungu Nyoro for being dad to her

In another story, Nyoro was touched to tears when a girl he sponsors praised him for stepping into her father's shoes.

According to a sweet letter written by the girl, her mum and dad separated some time back and she had never experienced love and attention from a father.

She thanked Nyoro for being a father figure to her, and Nyoro attributed it to the mentorship program offered by the Watoto Wasome charity initiative.
