Addressing the media at Haki Africa's Office in Mombasa, his brother Ahmed Mohammed Alawi told us that his brother was forcefully abducted by armed police officers with no explainable reasons.
Ahmed said his missing brother Amin was in a particular restaurant in Nyali sub-county in Mombasa having dinner with friends when a group of unknown people believed to be police officers entered the premises and ordered them to lie down with their heads facing the ground.
He said out of seven friends who were in Amin's company, they only kidnapped his brother and, forcibly placed him into a silver Probox car and disappeared with him to an unknown place.
"That night of Wednesday at around 10 pm, his friends arrived at our homestead with my brother's Tuktuk alleging that Amin was abducted by armed men who were driving a silver Probox and drove away. We tried to intervene, but none had idea of who the suspected abductors were," said Ahmed.
The family now wants the alleged restaurant to produce CCTV footage of how the incident happened and questioning the hotel over insecurities.
Tuk Tuk driver's father speaks
His Father, Mohammed Alawi, told journalists that they are refugees in Kenya from Somalia, and they have lived in Kenya for the past seven years. Their son Amin has no criminal record at any police station neither has their son ever involved himself in any criminal activities.
Alawi said his son and the group were ordered to submit their Identification Cards before the abduction.
According to him, he blames the hotel for poor insecurities. He now demands the whereabouts of his son, whether dead or alive.
"I want my son back. He was just a Tuktuk driver and not a criminal. How can police just pick somebody's son without explanation? We need justice and answers," said Alawi.
The old man is pleading with the National police service and the government of Kenya to help them find their missing son.
According to his father's statement, he has five kids, and Amin was the third born in his lineage.
"He is my third-born son. He was a man with no grudge against anyone. And if he heard issues, why did the suspected police officers who arrested him not report or arrest him instead of abducting him," asked his father.
Missing persons incidents
Mathias Shipeta from Haki Africa Organisation, an organization that supports human rights, said it is the first case they have received this year, and it is so unfortunate that we have police officers who are alleged to be abductors.
Shipeta asked Kenyan citizens to help find the missing person; he also asked intelligent police service to intervene and help the family find their missing kin.
The human rights defenders said last year they recorded such cases and hoping this year the number of missing people cases will go down.
He urged the National government to improve its security for its people to avoid such cases.
"If the National government can do their work well in terms of providing accurate and perfect security services to its citizens, there could be no such cases," he said.
Amin Mohammed's case was reported at Nyali police station under OB number 23/4/1/2024 at 11/HRS.
Family ask Kenyans to help trace their loved one.
