Murang'a - Police have launched a man-hunt for a secondary school teacher suspected to have murdered his two children.

James Gitau from Kiawambeu reportedly picked up his two sons after picking them up from his estranged wife.

Gitau picked up the minors aged between two and five years under the guise that he wanted to spend quality time with them.

The teacher went missing after committing the heinous crime, prompting the ongoing search by the police.

According to the residents, Gitau called his wife before committing the act through his mother's phone and had a conversation that lasted for at least 10 minutes.

The teacher then picked up the children from where they were sleeping and took them to his one-bedroom house, where he killed them.

"He called out to her, but there was no response. He went to look for her in the house that was being built. Upon opening the door, he discovered that the children had already been killed," said Antony Kuimbia, a resident.

What made Gitau kill his children

The couple reportedly had an on-and-off relationship, and in most cases, Gitau would ask his wife to return home.

However, their latest dispute seemed to have been the stroke that broke the camel's back as his wife failed to return after six months.

"She usually returns to her parents' home, and Gitau goes to pick her up, drops her off, and then goes to bring her again. But during this period, she has stayed for a while," Joseph Njuguna, a resident, said.

Confirming the incident, Murang’a County Commander David Mathiu said the police had laid a dragnet for the suspect.

He said Gitau might have been on a revenge mission mission and ended up harming his innocent children.
