He said that he did not have any extra appliances or activities in his house that could justify such a high bill.
He also wondered how ordinary citizens who earn less than him could afford to pay their bills.
“How can I pay KSh 40,000 when I don’t have a disco in my house? What did I use to get a bill of KSh 40,000? From KSh 20,000 to KSh 40,000. Those are fraudsters. Electricity bill for just a house. If they can slap with that bill how about you?” he asked his congregation.
Man calls out KPLC after taxing him too much
Separately, a Kenyan took to social media to express his frustration over the many taxes levied on the purchase of electricity by Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC).
The Kenyan under Twitter account @pmusesya shared a message from KPLC after he purchased tokens worth KSh 5,000.
To his frustrations, only KSh 1,891 was apportioned to the actual purchase of tokens while KSh 3,109 went to levies and taxes.
From the message shared, there were a total of seven tax categories charged on the purchase of electricity with the Fuel Energy Charge taking the lion's share at KSh 1,748.
"Look at this. Kenya Power does this even look normal? Someone sends KSh 5,000 to purchase electricity tokens and only KSh 1,891 is apportioned to the actual purchase of the service? Does this even make sense?" said Pmusesya.
Replying to the thread that had generated a lot of discussions from Kenyans, KPLC promised to look into the issues raised.
"PA Otieno We have captured the complaint under ref no: 8955175 and advised our technician to assist." KPLC replied.
