Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has alleged that MPs participating in the East Africa Community inter-parliamentary games in Rwanda cannot cover their accommodation expenses.

Why are MPs struggling with bills?

The outspoken legislature said that MPs are struggling with bills, despite President William Ruto's huge participation in the Kimalel goat auction and cultural festival.

"I saw yesterday that the president was flourishing and buying goats. It is okay to buy the goats. But as members of parliament, we came out here in Rwanda to participate in the EALA games, which is so surprising that even MPs have not been given anything. We have not paid our hotels, and they want us to compete," he asserted.

The lawmaker stated that it would not be fair to spend their funds on settling hotel bills while their constituents face hardships during the festive season.

"How can a whole parliament be here in Rwanda struggling with bills? I cannot spend my money meant for a tournament for the Mumias East youth and Christmas gifts on settling the hotel bills. Or should I go do the dishes to settle the bills?" he asked.
"Am just going to run for Kenya in 200m and relays tomorrow, just because I love my country more than money, but it is okay. One day members of national assembly will come to realise their role and not to be worshiping executive and I must win the race for my big love for my country Kenya," he added.

Salasya called on the president to abandon falsehoods following Ruto's disclosure of the country's financial stability.

"How much longer must we cling to false hopes and illusions of nonexistent things? Recently, the president announced a stable economy. Dear President, it is time to cease the unnecessary dramatics," said Salasya.

Ruto buys goats worth KSh 15 million

On December 14, President William Ruto and his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, graced the annual Kimalel goat auction in Baringo county where they purchased 1,000 goats for KSh 15,000 each.

"The DP and I will buy one goat at KSh 15,000, but the rest have said they will buy at KSh 13,000, and we will allow them that. There are two things: no credit and no cheques. We don't want issues about bounced cheques; we finish everything right here," said the president.

Among the attendants were Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen, who bought 150 goats; MP Oscar Sudi (150 goats); Baringo MPs (120); Governor Benjamin Cheboi (100); Belgut MP Nelson Koech (100); KNCCI president Eric Ruto (100); and Senator William Cheptumo (50).
