Youth Affairs CS Ababu Namwamba has been called out by Sanaipei Tande for failing to fulfil his promise.

Why Sanaipei is calling out Ababu

According to Citizen TV, during Kalasha's 9th edition in 2019, the Kenya Film Commission (KFC) launched an awarding programme, allocating KSh 1.7 million as prize money.

Winners of Kalasha are expected to get KSh 100,000 as prize money, but in 2022, CS Ababu Namwamba promised to double the amount.

He noted that he would increase the money to KSh 200,000.

Nearly a year later, Sanaipei Tande has come out and called out the CS for failing to fulfil his promise to the creators.

The musician questioned why KSh 167 million was being set aside for new talent when they had yet to get paid.

She said:

"One year later no prize money and no communication on the same from @kenyafilmcomm @KalashaKenya or @AbabuNamwamba but KSh 167m set aside for #KNT renovations in bids to develop and nurture NEW talent! What of the existing talent?"

Ababu responds to Sanaipei

TUKO.co.ke reached out to the politician, and he disclosed that his department had released the money to KFC.

"Funds released to the Kenya Film Commission (KFC), which is in touch with the winners. Sanaipei has this information since she is in direct contact with KFC CEO, Mr. Timothy Owase.
Am excited with the phenomenal growth of the film industry and the creatives generally under my watch. Significant cash rewards were never heard of before. I am glad I took the bold measure to up the stakes. The next Kalasha cash awards will be bigger, swankier, hotter, in the true spirit of Talanta Hela, Pesa Mfukoni."

Sanaipei mourns death of her dad

In October, the musician mourned the loss of her father, Manasseh Lemaiyian Tande.

Manasseh's obituary stated that his life left an enduring impact on those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Sanaipei confirmed the sad news and expressed her thanks to friends and fans for their support.
