Nairobi - The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has given an update on the investigations into the gruesome murder of socialite Starlet Wahu.

In a statement, the DCI asked victims of John Matara, who is being treated as the main suspect behind Starlet's murder, to record a statement with the police.

"The DCI appeals to any victims and survivors of the suspect's animosity, to formally report their ordeals at the Regional Criminal Investigations Office in Nairobi or the nearest police station," DCI said.

According to the detectives, Matara is being treated as a serial sexual predator who thrives on blackmailing his victims.

Why DCI thinks Matara might be a member of criminal gang

DCI said Matara is likely a member of a criminal ring that targets women on dating sites and other social media pages.

"The investigations currently point to a possible serial sexual offender who thrives on blackmail to his victims, and who may be part of a criminal ring that targets women on dating sites and other social media Apps," the statement added.

The DCI called on more witnesses of such brutality and monstrous attacks to come out and record statements with our detectives.

At the same time, DCI cautioned young women to be aware of people with the character of suspects who promise to unleash terror.

"At the same time caution members of the public to be aware of such felons in the guise of lovers, who promise heaven but unleash hell on those who fall for their plot," DCI cautioned.

How John Matara attacked another woman

In a related development, another woman claimed to be a robbery victim of Wahu's alleged killer.

According to Citizen TV, Matara, who allegedly killed Starlet in an Airbnb, is under investigation for possible serial killings both in and outside Nairobi.

The police started following the trail after another victim reported an attempted murder by Matara at the Makadara Sub-county police headquarters.

In her report, the victim named her assailant as John Ong'oa Matara.

"He was trying to strangle me so much; that is why he left the marks behind," said the victim, showing healing scratch marks on her neck.

According to the victim, two of them started engaging on a dating site and finally met physically on December 29.
