For the last three days, John Matara has been trending for being the main suspect in the brutal murder of Nairobi socialite Starlet Wahu.

Many of those with experience with him, especially women, painted the picture of someone who liked exchanging women but was unkind to them.

Rebellious Monk

One of his former friends has disclosed anonymously that the murder suspect was once a close associate with whom they shared values.

According to the source, Matara was a passionate Pan-African and Rastafarian, going by the "Rebellious Monk" and "General Ra" monikers.

The two worked together in organizing African Liberation Day events, collaborating on a strong stand against what they perceived as attempts by NGOs to inject LGBTQ agendas into Pan-African events.

"We also disagreed on other issues; chief was his opposition to my participation in what he termed bourgeois politics," the former friend said.

Matara was Pan-Africanist

Additionally, Matara held an alternative perspective on Pan-Africanism, advocating for an "alkebulan" view that Mc'Olonde found himself at odds with.

Despite their differing opinions, the friend emphasized that their interactions were confined to meetings, forums, and WhatsApp groups.

He, however, refrained from commenting on the allegations of gender violence or sexually predatory behaviour against Matara.

The individual maintained that he could not speak about events outside their organized activities.

Legal process should be followed

Addressing the current situation, he expressed concern over the rush to judgment, noting how fellow "comrades" quickly condemned Matara without allowing judicial due process.

He emphasized the importance of letting the legal system run its course and urged fairness in pursuing justice for the victim.

The man concluded by extending condolences to the victim's family, emphasizing that no one deserves to die in such a manner, regardless of their lifestyle or career choice.

He also called for the harshest punishment for the perpetrator of this heinous act, expressing hope for a fair and just resolution to the tragic case.

Matara the Reggae artiste

A YouTube video shows Matara's reggae song christened "Time has Proven," filmed back in the days when he had dreadlocks.

Friends have also opened up about what they knew Matara for.

"Monk is a multi-talented, gifted orator, graphic designer, Reggae Artist, Activist, and Pan-Africanist. He was all over," one said.
"He was all that, but the dude lacks the basic militant discipline required of a revolutionary," another added.

Matara led lavish, secretive lifestyle

In an earlier story, a former neighbour at KM estate claimed the suspect led a lavish but secretive life and was famed for exchanging women.

The source told TUKO.co.ke that despite several reports made at different police stations, Matara would always find his way out.

Neighbours ganged up and forced the landlord to evict him after cases of violence against the women he brought home became unbearable.
