"It is very unfortunate that police officers at Nyayo House are mishandling the public, and today I fell victim. I was roughed up and seriously assaulted. I sustained injuries to my left foot and arm," he claimed.

According to Yakub, he is the 6th MP from the North-Eastern province to be assaulted by the security guards while seeking to access the immigration department.

Additionally, he reported a surge in corruption at the facility, stating that people of Somali origin are compelled to bribe security personnel to gain entry.

"There is a policewoman heading security there. She collects money from Kenyan Somalis who applied for passports for them to access the premises, and she verily mishandled most NEP MPs. I am the 6th MP to be humiliated by that contingent," added the UDA politician.

Kindiki admits there is corruption at Nyayo House

In August this year, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki acknowledged that the Nyayo House has been affected by corruption, with government officials exploiting the immigration department to take advantage of Kenyans applying for passports.

Addressing the National Assembly, the CS vowed to visit the facility regularly to ensure seamless processing of passports.

"I have admitted that we have a problem in the Immigration Department. But I must say that there are also good officers who are serving patriotically. There are others collecting bribes and harassing Kenyans.

According to Kindiki, his ministry and that of President William Ruto had regrettably confirmed reliable complaints from Kenyans on how applicants are forced to bribe the officers with as much as KSh 10,0000 to have their passports processed.

"I have received a lot of complaints from Kenyans who are looking for passports. This is very unfortunate and cannot be allowed to continue unabated. The president has also received several complaints, even from his counterparts within the region and overseas, over deliberate attempts to delay passport processing," the CS stated.
