The humongous gate is believed to be worth millions.
"Happening NOW…Official handing over of the university gate by the contractor today, Monday 11th December 2023," read the post.
Why did Kenyans criticise Moi University's leadership
Despite the remarkable achievement, Kenyans on social media shared their reservations about the multi-million project.
Most Kenyans highlighted the struggle the varsity has had to endure in recent months as they struggle to keep afloat.
A section of Kenyans was also full of praise as they compared the gate to other universities that have given their gates a facelift.
TUKO.co.ke sampled some of their posts:
@TuJadili:
"Shame on all of you for lining up to launch a gate at an academic institution. You should be launching research projects."
@GFInfinity51:
"Not sure where this culture came from. Serious universities are investing in research and world-class labs. Not world-class gates."
@victor_kipng:
"University Council, Proffesors, Doctors, Choir, gate opening committee kufungua gate , then during audit you write one million. All this people lining up to open a gate that has been built for ten years, you should all be ashamed of yourselves."
@lujiTeer_0
"Isn't it ironic that a state-of-the-art library was launched here 30+ years ago and today, the same uni is launching........a GATE! The VC needs to do something EPIC to redeem himself from this embarrassment."
Moi University locals apologise
Earlier, residents of Moi University's main campus in Kesses asked for an apology from former Vice-Chancellor Laban Ayiro.
During a protest at the varsity on Monday, November 27, the locals apologised for leading in calls to have Ayiro removed from office.
"We want to offer our apology. I want to apologise on behalf of the public to Ayiro. He was the right person to be elected as the vice chancellor of Moi University. This is something we sincerely apologize for without any reservations. We apologise to Ayiro," lamented a resident.
