Uasin Gishu - The Opposition Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has strongly criticised the United States for meddling in the country's political affairs.
Azimio leaders who addressed the media at the Eldoret Sports Club on the sidelines of the biennial devolution conference accused US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman of bias.
"We urge our friends from the US to be the consistent partner we have known in fighting corruption. The conversations at the devolution conference have revealed the true nature of the Kenya Kwanza administration. As long as they have the praise and worship of foreign nations led by the US, they don't care what ordinary Kenyans feel," said Kitui senator Enock Wambua.
Why Azimio doubts Kenya's electoral systems
Wambua elected on a Wiper Party ticket observed that as Azimio, they are strongly convinced that Kenya is headed in the wrong direction.

"We believe that our electoral systems are fundamentally flawed and dysfunctional. We believe that our people are being taxed to poverty and death. We believe that corruption threatens the security and prosperity of our nation," he added.
Wambua also said that it is for these reasons that Azimio agreed to the establishment of the National Dialogue Committee.
"As long as Kenyans are talking, we expect our foreign friends, and especially the United States to be sensitive, and mature and to avoid making comments that are likely to erode the little trust that we are building for the sake of our motherland," said Wambua.
On his part, Homa Bay senator Moses Kajwang' said that the comments by the US ambassador were prejudicial to the ongoing national dialogue discussions.
"These discussions are premised on three things she spoke about in a very insensitive manner. They are electoral injustice, the high cost of living, and corruption. The Azimio team that has gone for the negotiations has got instructions that these three issues should be on the table," said Kajwang'.
Why Kenya-US Constitutions are connected
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) senator said that Azimio, they would not wish Kenya's foreign friends and foreign partners to get involved in those domestic conversations.
"We appreciate the support they have given us in the past and what we are calling them is to continue to be inconsistent. Some of the rights that are being trumped upon in Kenya were borrowed from the US Constitution," Kajwang' further said.
Siaya senator Oburu Odinga who also spoke at the same time observed that it was very insensitive for the US ambassador to talk about democracy in Kenya when this regime has" criminalised legitimate rights of the Kenyan people to demonstrate, picket, and assemble."
"This is a right enshrined in the constitution and it is even borrowed from the American Constitution. I felt hurt when the US ambassador is dancing and praising democracy in Keya when such rights are being criminalised," said the ODM senator.
Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported that Whitman maintained that the 2022 General Election was free, fair, credible, and a hallmark in Kenya's electioneering history.
At the official opening of the 2023 Devolution Conference in Eldoret, Whitman said all election observers agreed that President William Ruto won the 2022 state house race.
According to Whitman, the ruling by the Supreme Court affirmed that testimony that the elections were transparent.
