Kakamega - United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party secretary general Cleophas Malala has stepped up his efforts to have all parties in Kenya Kwanza fold into one.

The outspoken politician has been facing resistance from his Westen backyard as the Amani National Congress (ANC) party, and Ford Kenya remain adamant about not closing shop.

During an event in Kakamega on Friday, September 1, Malala questioned where the parties were headed if they were led by individuals from the same families.

He rubbished the chances of such parties producing the next head of state, yet their leadership is centred in one village.

"I don't want to mention names, but there's a situation here where you all know the party leader is from one clan, the secretary-general is from one clan, and the woman leader is from one clan. So, what kind of business is this, pretending that you can become the president and then you just come from here? For the party leader, they are over there, for the woman leader and the secretary-general, they are over there, and you want to be the president of the Republic of Kenya," he said.

In an apparent dig at the ANC, Malala urged Vihiga residents to join UDA, arguing that they could not be the smallest county in the Western region and still have their own small party.

"You people from Vihiga, wake up. Now, if the party is only for Vihiga County, which is the smallest county, then you have your smallest party," Malala added.

The former ANC secretary-general pointed out that in the end, the electorate suffers due to the small parties.

He added that only a few families close to the party leadership benefit from them getting into leadership positions, while the rest of the community suffers.

"Now, that is just a circus you are deceiving yourselves with. So, all your circus, in the end, only benefits one or two families, and the entire community sinks. Why?" he posed.

Mudavadi's party reiterates it won't fold to join UDA

In a related development, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi's Amani National Congress vowed it will not dissolve into UDA.

This is despite repeated and determined calls by Malala that all parties in Kenya Kwanza will be whipped into one political vehicle through which Ruto will seek a 2027 re-election.

Though Mudavadi is no longer the party leader of ANC, its current boss, Issa Timamy, has said the political unit will remain autonomous.
