Nairobi - More details have emerged about the woman arrested in Ngara in connection with selling marijuana in Kariua slums.

Her daughter Sheila Waithera defended her mother, Teresia Wanjiru, saying police officers planted the illegal substance and money on her mum.

She does not move drugs

Waithera disclosed that officers briefly talked with her mother about what she does and where she lives, only for them to arrest her as they left the informal settlement.

"Are you sure this store is not yours? She told them that I showed you my place and my hotel business. They insisted, carried their luggage, and when they passed through Mum's business, they went with her," Waithera said.

The daughter also said there was a bad intention in her mother's arrest because they do not have as much money as quoted by the police.

"If they are saying we have all that money, why I'm I not in school?" Waithera posed.

Grace Mwihaki, mother to Teresia Wanjiru and grandmother to Waithera, said there was no way they could have that much money and still live in abject poverty.

Police: She is an accomplice

According to the police, Wanjiru allegedly works for Nancy Indoveria Kigunzu, the real Mathee wa Ngara, the real marijuana distributor in Ngara, with powerful associates from Isebania in Busia and Moyale, where the illegal product comes from.

Citizen TV said Kigunzu operated with so much impunity in the past that she influenced the interdiction and even the transfer of police officers who tried to interfere with her business.

She has enjoyed the protection of senior police officers in the country.

Nairobi's Queen of South show

Kenyans have hilariously likened the Ngara woman arrested for selling narcotics to the main character in the popular crime series Queen of the South.

Fifty-four-year-old Teresiah Wanjiru, popularly known as Mathe Wa Ngara, was arrested on Tuesday, August 15, in a sting operation in the locality.

As news of her arrest broke on social media, the show Queen of the South started trending on Twitter as many Kenyans likened Wanjiru to the show's main character, Teresa Mendoza.
