USA - Former president Donald Trump has been charged with 91 crimes in four criminal cases, in four different jurisdictions.

CNN reported that the new indictment returned Monday, August 14, by the Fulton County grand jury accuses Trump of 13 crimes.

The Atlanta-based prosecution is one of four criminal cases Trump is facing – two federal, and two state cases

Why Trump is facing 34 charges

In the New York case brought by Manhattan prosecutors, Trump has been charged with 34 counts stemming from the alleged 2016 campaign hush money scheme.

Trump faces 40 charges in special counsel Jack Smith’s Mar-a-Lago documents case, after a superseding indictment was unveiled last month.

Smith’s separate federal election subversion case against Trump levied four criminal charges against the former president.

TUKO.co.ke previously reported that Trump pleaded not guilty to 37 charges Tuesday, June 13, in a brief but historic court appearance following his arrest and processing on federal charges.

Trump is the first former US president to face federal charges following last week’s indictment by special counsel Jack Smith.

CNN reported that Trump made clear once again that he has no plans to stop attacking the special counsel’s indictment and the other legal peril he faces as he runs for president again in 2024.

Classified military documents

While the court appearance was the second time in a little over two months that Trump had pleaded not guilty to criminal charges in a courtroom, he also pleaded not guilty in April to charges brought by the Manhattan district attorney.

The federal charges are a more serious legal threat to the former president.

Smith was appointed special counsel roughly seven months ago, and he delivered an indictment against the former president that even some of Trump’s Republican allies have said is damaging, accusing Trump of keeping classified military documents, showing them off to others and obstructing the investigation into tracking them down.

Regardless of what happens next with the case against Trump, the federal charges are a historic moment that will have a significant impact on the outcome of the 2024 GOP primary.
