Embu - A 56-year-old man will be locked up in jail for the next 15 years after being found guilty of killing his wife.

Fifty-six-year-old Crispin Nyaga killed his wife, Catherine Mbuya, on last year's Christmas Day after a dispute between them.

The bone of contention was food; Nyaga accused his wife of failing to produce the meat he had asked her to prepare for the family.

Citizen TV reported that the man left home on December 25, 2022, to go make merry.

KSh 2,000 food shopping

This was after Nyaga reportedly left Mbuya KSh 2,000 to buy food and other commodities.

The monies were proceeds of a miraa sale, out of which he took home KSh 3,000.

Upon returning home later that day, a drunk Nyaga demanded food but got shocked there was no single piece of meat on his plate.

A dispute followed, during which the man picked a machete and descended on Mbuya with it injuring her leg.

Nyaga would then hit her head with a piece of wood, killing her on the spot.

Considering the evidence before her, Justice Lucy Njuguna convicted Nyaga.

She asserted that the 56-year-old would continue posing a security threat to those around him if let free.

"By releasing you, we will cause more harm to the community, you are a serious offender to your family and to the community, you deserve a custodial sentence for the safety of Kambaru people.
In considering all the above, I sentence you, Crispin Nyaga, to 15 years imprisonment,” ruled the High Court judge.

Man surrenders to police

Similarly, a Kirinyaga man recently surrendered to the police and confessed to the brutal murder of his wife after a heated argument.

The bone of contention was the sale of beans.

The suspect confessed that on the night of Sunday, July 2, he attacked his wife with crude weapons and left her dead.

Speaking to the media, neighbours said they rushed to the couple's home on the fateful night to respond to the woman's hapless screams that she made as her husband beat her with a rungu.

"I heard loud screams that made me come to a neighbour's house to hear what was happening. I could hear them fight over the beans they harvested," a neighbour said.

Another neighbour said the woman was dead when they arrived at the house.

They found her remains lying in the kitchen and immediately alerted the police.

Kirinyaga police boss Edward Ndirangu confirmed that the man went to the police to confess he had killed his wife.

The suspect told the police that he murdered her after an argument about the beans they harvested last week.

The law enforcers found the victim bleeding profusely from the mouth when they went to collect her body.
