Kiambu county - Former Nyeri senatorial aspirant Kabando Wa Kabando is unhappy with President William Ruto as regards how he is running his government close to a year after assuming the office.

On Saturday, August 5, Ruto kickstarted his five-day working tour of the Mt Kenya region, where he commissioned a host of development projects.

He started in Githurai, Kiambu county, where he presided over the official opening of the modern market built there.

"The building of modern markets in counties, equipped with value addition facilities, will provide conducive environment, cut down losses and expand earnings for traders. That is our priority in the Plan as we transform Kenya. Officially opened the Githurai Market, Kiambu County," said Ruto.

Taking credit for Uhuru's projects

Kabando disparaged the launch; he implied that Ruto is riding on projects his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta, initiated to hoodwink the Mt Kenya region locals.

In a fierce Twitter write-up addressed to Ruto, Kabando picked holes in the president's style of leadership, suggesting it is still saturated with the obvious political rhetoric spun during pre-election campaigns.

He noted that Ruto was reneging on the promises with which he sought office.

"Rais Ruto, all those projects you've come Mt.Kenya to launch are of Uhuru's era. Where is the Guaranteed Minimum Returns for our avocados, coffee, milk, coffee, tea, macadamia, rice that you so loudly promised?" he posed.

He pointed out that a year since Ruto took the reins of power from Uhuru, there is less to be written home, observing that the head of state has resorted to blaming the Opposition and his predecessor.

"Mr. President, what Mt.Kenya region, as indeed all regions of Kenya, need is statesmanship from you and government services. Stories about Uhuru and Raila is not what you were elected to do. We recognise you, even as your presidency is replete with disdain, rantings, lamentations," he said.

He also counselled the president on dealing with the indictment in his administration, characterised by incompetence and complacency, and against leveraging the clergy's influence to 'buy' the people.

"Rais, as you enter Nyeri County to "launch" gone era projects, to host "cleansing" prayers Sagana State Lodge, reserve a moment of supplication for the sacred mountain. Kibaki never ever bribed pastors or crowds to 'thanksgiving' rallies. We just loved him free for who he was."

Kabando appears to be cutting himself off as a non-partisan as he takes on both the government and the Opposition on issues pertinent to the country.

Kabando takes on the Opposition

He recently termed the five issues fronted for dialogue by the Opposition as a mockery of the recent anti-government protests.

According to the former lawmaker, 80% of the issues raised by the Raila Odinga-led side are all about political power.

Kabando stated that the Opposition's failure to push for an end to corruption, extrajudicial killings and impunity means they are only interested in political issues.

He regretted that anti-government demonstrators might not be done justice if the Raila-led side insisted on the five issues already outlined for the oncoming talks.

"80% of issues listed by Azimio are on pure politics & political power. No mention of #Statecapture inquiry or #tjrc that would aid in ending corruption, political assassinations, extrajudicial killings & impunity. Political power minus justice is not worth the effort, mocks maandamano," he said.
