The dailies also delved into former Cabinet Secretary (CS) James Macharia's fight with his siblings over the control of the wealth left behind by their father.

1. People Daily

Kisumu East Member of Parliament (MP) Shakeel Shabbir has revealed that five people who scanned their irises for Worldcoin reported eye problems.

According to the MP, the victims blamed the optical problems on the scanning of their eyes.

Health CS Susan Nakhumicha said her ministry was not aware of the device used by the American firm to scan eyes, which could have posed health challenges.

"The company in question did not report the device as medical equipment. With this in consideration, I cannot rule out the claims of a health problem," Nakhumicha told MPs.

Over 350,000 Kenyans had their eyes scanned before the government suspended the exercise over privacy concerns.

After the cryptocurrency craze launched on Monday, July 24, those who scanned their eyeballs for personal identity received KSh 7,000 in Worldcoin tokens (WLD).

2. Daily Nation

Former Transport CS James Macharia is at the centre of a multi-million inheritance dispute pitting him against his siblings.

Their patriarch Julius Macharia's death in 2017 without a will threw the family into disarray.

Members of the family are fighting to manage bank accounts with an unknown amount of money, four plots in Murang'a county, three in Nairobi's Eastleigh area, one in Dandora and another in Laikipia.

Factions have emerged in the family as they cannot agree on how to distribute the properties.

Macharia was accused by his elderly siblings Jane and Naftaly of secretly disposing of some of their father's assets and withdrawing money from his accounts illegally.

The duo wants the court to halt the sharing of the properties after the former CS took the family home in Murang'a and the property in Eastleigh. They also claimed rental income from Dandora and Eastleigh had been misappropriated.

3. The Standard

Disquiet has rocked the National Police Service, with junior officers expressing their disappointment over the meagre pay rise they received.

The officers noted their pay rise was a drop in the ocean as the country was battling the high cost of living.

They noted the mandatory Housing Levy Fund, NSSF, and NHIF deductions swallowed the rise.

The SRC recommended a pay rise of KSh 27.1 billion to public workers, of which the Kenya National Police Service (NPS) received 3.6 billion.

A police constable, the least paid officer, will pocket KSh 34,135 up from KSh 32,880, while a corporal pocketing KSh 42,660 takes home KSh 53,990 in the August 2023 payslip.

Police support staff will be getting a pay rise of between KSh 2,300 and KSh 11,020 based on the same review.

4. Taifa Leo

The publication reported why Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua opposed the national dialogue spearheaded by a bi-partisan team.

According to Taifa Leo, Gachagua fears being left in the cold if President William Ruto and his long-time rival Raila Odinga close ranks.

The DP claimed the talks would not bear fruits and were a waste of time.

He accused Raila of demanding a share of government but insisted they would not cede to his demands.

"There is nothing else he wants. He wanted a handshake and three ambassadorial posts, but we declined his demands. We told him if he wants some money then we can discuss," he said
