Police officer allegedly kills Nakuru man over Mpesa transaction

Previously, a police officer was accused of killing a man he suspected had reversed a KSh 350 Mpesa money transaction after being served with alcohol.

A security guard based in Nakuru stated that despite the victim being unarmed, Police Constable Isaac Lekachuma, was intent on killing him.

Testifying before Nakuru High Court Judge Heston Nyaga, guard Wesley Kirui, stationed at Salgaa Trading Centre in Rongai, revealed that Lekachuma shot Emmanuel Makokha in the chest.

The gunshot wound led to the immediate death of the victim.

Kirui also disclosed that Makokha, while attempting to evade the officer, sought refuge behind him, in a futile attempt to save himself.

Lekachuma, who served at Rongai Administration Police Post, was later interdicted.

The witness added that at some point, he too felt his life was in danger when he spotted the officer trying to shoot towards him.

In a split-second decision, he slipped from his jacket and ran away, leaving Makokha with the jacket.

Court documents indicated that the events which took place on the evening of October 2, 2017 started after the deceased reportedly bought alcohol at a local pub in Salgaa.

He is said to have paid and then reversed the KSh 350 bill, prompting the owner to lodge a complaint at the police station.

After making the report, the officers told the woman to inform them once she spotted Makokha, an instruction she followed on the would-be fateful day.
