Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Waithaka said he tried to save his marriage to no avail. The union brought forth five kids.
"I tried everything I could to salvage my union with my wife, but unfortunately or fortunately, it never worked. If it were minor issues, then perhaps we would have reconciled, but we were dealing with issues that made us go separate ways," the father of five said.
The businessman in Kiambu said at some point, his wife began mistreating their children, like not giving them food and not taking them to school, among other issues.
Children testify against mistreating mum
He tolerated her for a while since she was a housewife and he was the breadwinner in the family.
"She was not working because she cared for our kids, who were still young then. One issue led to another, and we had to take serious action.
We headed to court, where the court ruled in my favour as all odds were against my wife of 11 years. Even the children testified, and all wanted to remain with me because of the mistreatment at my wife's hands. It was not easy for me as I had to be the father and mother for my little ones," the entrepreneur said.
Baby found alone in house
The 46-year-old said he had to take on the domestic duties, seeing that he did not have a helper.
He had a six-month-old baby who was allowed to go with the mother, but he never imagined he would see his child soon.
"After about two months, the neighbours of my wife called me and told me to go for my child. I was confused as I did not understand what had happened. When I arrived where my wife used to stay, I found the baby alone. The mother had eloped," the man who sells mitumba clothes said.
It was not easy, Waithaka
Waithaka took the little one in and the burden of adding an extra stomach to the already starving kids back at home.
Life was tough on him as he was compelled to cook for the kids, wash their clothes and watch over them.
"I was glad my life was somehow flexible since I am a self-employed businessman. I had to plan my schedule for going to the market and returning home to care for my kids. It was not easy, but I managed," he said.
Vihiga man abandoned by wife with baby
In a similar story, a Vihiga man claimed his wife abandoned him with a child after sponsoring her Saudi Arabia work trip.
The man disclosed he sold his belongings to sponsor his wife's Saudi Arabia work trip, hoping she would support the family later.
However, the wife cut off communication, leaving the Majengo man alone to care for their eight-month-old child.
The woman returned to Kenya after about three years; surprisingly, she married another man in Kitengela.
"I confirmed that when she came back after three years. They're living together in Kitengela, Nairobi. I have nothing because I've never had peace of mind. I loved her, but I must start from one again," he continued.
