Kiambu county - Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wah reveals he has not been on talking terms with former president Uhuru Kenyatta for a long while.

The animosity between them started at the beginning of Uhuru's second and final term in 2018.

Speaking to the Kenyan Historian on YouTube, the lawmaker said Uhuru's headache was him (Ichung'wah) working closely with then-deputy president William Ruto.

Their bad blood started in 2018 when the MP served as the chairman of the Budget and Appropriations Committee in the National Assembly.

"He would occasionally call on budget-related matters," said Ichung'wah.

The instance that escalated their enmity was in 2019 when Uhuru had wanted Ichung'wah to okay appropriations to a certain government project but the latter would object to it, saying the whole August House has to deliberate on it.

The lawmaker recalled that a huge budget had been allocated to Universal Health Coverage (UHC) but there was no funding for it.

Therefore, Uhuru sought Ichung'wah's intervention as the chair of the budget committee to see to it that the program sets off.

The parliamentarian would however dissent from the president, saying it was not in his place to sanction the appropriation to the UHC, explaining that the house had to deliberate on it in a plenary.

Ichung'wah's stance on the particular matter rattled Uhuru and that is how he reportedly started threatening him.

"He happened to call me at night and I could tell the state he was in. He was livid, shouting and threatening me. I then asked him to resign from the committee if he thought I was undermining him. I explained to him that the program had no funding and he was being lied to. The money was being transferred to the net domestic borrowing," recalled Ichung'wah.
