Elgeyo Marakwet - Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has boasted that he successfully managed to have the Opposition suspend its anti-government protests after dealing with demonstrators properly last week.
Coming just a day after the Azimio la Umoja announced the suspension of their weekly protests, which were set to continue on Wednesday, July 26.
Speaking in Elgeyo Marakwet County, the CS said it was due to how the police service properly dealt with protesters last week that this week's protests were called off.
He said his ministry would now allow any destruction of lives and property in the name of politics, religion or tribes, further promising dire consequences to looters.

"When they started, they came at 4am only to find that we arrived at 1am waiting for them. In fact on the third day, we showed them fire. They will not try again. They had announced protests for tomorrow and we told them to come to face us but now they have cowered," he said.
Kindiki's vow to protesters
On Monday, July 24, Kindiki vowed to ruthlessly deal with perpetrators of crime during Azimio la Umoja demos.
Kindiki said the government will deploy anti-riot police officers at 1 am to ensure no criminal will have his way.
The Interior Cabinet secretary said the government will deploy the same force they have applied to terrorists and bandits on demonstrators.
"There is no politics that promotes theft and destroying the lives of Kenyans. In the same way, we have been hard with bandits and al-Shabaab. We will do the same for those claiming they are doing peaceful demos," the CS said.
The soft-spoken CS said his ministry would not allow people to hide under the guise of political rights and the freedoms of the constitution to cause mayhem and bloodshed in the country.
